In 2008, we were founded on the idea that seeds for green chile peppers should be available for everyone. We were the first seed packet company to focus exclusively on pepper seeds from around the world. At that time large seed packet companies sold only one or two peppers alongside their vegetable seed selection and they were not green chile seeds! We decided something had to change, so Sandia Seed started offering several different green chile seeds in packets and we've adding more and more peppers every year!

A great thing about growing green chile is that they are HUGE! These are some of the biggest peppers in the world, which makes them perfect for roasting and using in all sorts of recipes like chile rellenos, stew, and more.

Did you know that chiles turn red when fully mature? While we pick many of them while still green, if left to fully mature on the vine they will turn red. So our red chile varieties such as Joe E. Parker can be picked at full size when still green or you can let them ripen to red for more flavor. Red chile is not often sold in stores or at markets as it is very perishable, so it is most often dried and sold in the form of Ristras, chile powder or flakes – so growing it at home is a great way to experience the buttery goodness that fresh red chile offers!
