Green hot sauce is a favorite among hot sauce connoisseurs. Green hot sauces are not always super hot (though they can be), and instead focus on the balance of spice and bright, tangy, and fresh flavors. Green hot sauce usually includes green ingredients including green jalapenos, serranos, fish peppers, green chiles, unripe green habaneros that are often combined with lime, cilantro, garlic, garlic chives, green onions, green or yellow tomatoes and tomatillos.
Simple Green Hot Sauce Recipe:
1 pound of Jalapenos (or any green hot peppers of your choice)
3/4 cup white vinegar
1/2 cup water
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1/2 cup cilantro
the juice of 1 lime
1/2 teaspoon salt
Fresh cracked black pepper to taste
Add de-stemmed jalapenos, cumin, pepper, white vinegar, water and salt to the pan and bring to a simmer for 10 minutes. Let cool, add to blender and add cilantro and lime juice. Pour into clean, sterilized jars, and store in the fridge.
You can vary the quantities of this recipe depending on how many peppers you have. Feel free to also add other ingredients to make this recipe your own, such as green onions, garlic, garlic chives, or coriander, which is made from dried, crushed cilantro seeds – you can use unripe green cilantro seeds too for a fresh pop of flavor.
