Española Improved NuMex Chile Seeds - Perfect for High Altitudes & Cool Seasons

Discover the beloved Española Improved Green Chile Seeds, a fast-growing, early-maturing variety specially adapted to thrive in northern New Mexico's high-altitude climates and cooler seasons. Developed in 1984 by Drs. Matta and Nakayama at NMSU, this exceptional chile is a cross between the Sandia chile and the old Española landrace chile, delivering robust flavor and reliable performance.

Why Choose Española Improved NuMex Chile?

This medium-heat chile (Scoville 2000–4000) produces 7" long pods with smooth, thin-walled skin, perfect for crafting deep-flavored red chile powder. The compact, 30" plants are highly productive, making them ideal for short growing seasons and container gardening.

Key Features:

  • Fast & Early Maturing - Ready in just 75 days (Capsicum annuum)
  • Adapted to Cool Climates - Thrives in high-altitude regions
  • Versatile Use - Excellent for green chile dishes or red powder
  • Open-Pollinated - Save seeds for future planting (67% germination rate)
  • GMO-Free - Naturally grown for purity and flavor

Growing Tips:

For best results, start seeds indoors 8 weeks before the last frost. Plant in sterile soil, cover 1/4" deep, and maintain 85°F bottom heat with bright light. Transplant seedlings after 6 true leaves develop, spacing them 30" apart in rich soil or large 5-gallon containers. Harvest green or wait for full red maturity.

Packet contains 10 seeds.

Bring the authentic taste of New Mexico to your garden—order your Española Improved Green Chile Seeds today and enjoy a flavorful, heat-packed harvest!

Great chiles

These are indeed fast growing and the plants were loaded with chiles. With bottom heat all but 2 seeds germinated. Will grow these again.
