What to plant with Tomatoes

What to plant with Tomatoes - Basil!

Wondering what to plant with tomatoes to help them thrive?

Here are some of our top suggestions:

  1. Basil – basil and tomatoes are the perfect companions!
It's been said that growing a basil plant next to your tomatoes can improve the growth and taste of tomatoes. Basil also helps repel garden pests like aphids and spider mites, while attracting pollinators with it's blooms. It's also perfect to grow basil with tomatoes because they complement each other in the kitchen! Think tomato sauce, pesto, caprese salad, you name it! Harvest basil often to keep it growing more leaves. We also like to leave a few plants go to flower for seed-saving and to please the pollinators.

What to plant with Tomatoes - Marigolds

  2. Marigolds – Beautiful and long lasting marigolds are commonly planted around tomato plants as companion plants to deter pests, attract beneficial insects, and enhance overall garden health. We have even seen some research that says that growing Marigolds around your tomatoes protects the tomato plants from harmful root-knot nematodes in the soil.  Whatever it is, it really does seem to work – and we plant Marigolds and tomatoes together every season. Easy to start from seeds, Marigolds are a bright and cheery companion plant for tomatoes and peppers, and bloom well into the fall – they even tolerate light frosts and are often some of the last flowers for you and pollinators to enjoy in late autumn.
