When is the best time to plant seeds?

First, what is your area’s last expected frost date? If you don’t know, ask a local gardener, a nearby plant nursery, or do a web search for the frost dates in your zip code. The Farmer’s Almanac has an easy Frost Dates Calculator here

Once you know your frost date, check the seed packet. It will typically tell you when to sow your seeds in relation to your frost date.

Vegetable seeds like tomatoes seeds and pepper seeds should be started indoors 6-8 weeks before your last frost date.
