The Hottest Pepper in 2020 is the infamous Carolina Reaper! While a lot of other contenders have come onto the market in the past few years, the Reaper still carries the Guinness World Record crown for being the world's hottest pepper in 2020.
Developed by pepper breeder Ed Currie in South Carolina, this wicked beast of a pepper is red with a gnarled, bumpy texture and a small pointed tail. Guinness World Records declared it the hottest chili pepper in the world in 2013, and it has held the record ever since.
We don't recommend eating these whole, but rather, used to make Carolina Reaper Hot Sauce or a wicked Carolina Reaper Salsa. or you can tame their heat a bit and turn it into major flavor with a Fermented Hot Sauce made from Carolina Reapers.
Will eating a Carolina Reaper Kill You?
The previous world record holder for the hottest pepper was the Trinidad Scorpion "Butch T", who won the record in 2011 – and we think the Butch is every bit as hot at the Reaper!!
