Is it okay to grow tomatoes in pots?

Of course! But, keep in mind that if you're growing a large tomato variety, you need to use as big of a pot as possible so they can grow deep roots and there is room in the pot to provide support such as a trellis, obelisk, cage or other support. Tomatoes tend to grow lanky and providing support is crucial. You should also make sure to use a well draining potting mix (no garden soil). Watering consistently is also important with pots, you will likely have to water tomato pots more frequently than tomatoes grown in the ground. Another thing to consider is using organic fertilizer more regularly to keep your potted tomato plants growing healthy and strong.
