Caribbean Red Habanero Pineapple Hot Sauce
If you have a lot of red habaneros, make sure to make this recipe for a spicy culinary delight! This hot sauce goes great on everything from tacos to pizza.
Ingredients:
20 Caribbean Red habaneros, stems removed
1 medium sweet onion, chopped
5 cloves garlic
1½ cups white vinegar
½ cup water
2 tablespoons lime juice
2 tablespoons honey or brown sugar
1½ teaspoons salt
1 cup fresh pineapple chunks
Directions:
Wear gloves when handling the habaneros. Cut them in half; leave the inner white placenta intact if you want maximum heat. Put the habaneros, onion, garlic, vinegar, water, pineapple, honey, and salt in a saucepan. Bring to a gentle boil, reduce the heat, and simmer uncovered for 15–20 minutes, until everything is soft.
Let it cool slightly, then blend until completely smooth. Add the lime juice and blend again. If it’s thicker than you want, add a little more vinegar. For an extra-smooth bottled sauce, push it through a fine-mesh strainer.
Taste carefully. It should be very hot, fruity, slightly sweet, and tangy. Keep it refrigerated in clean bottles or jars.
Important: This recipe is for refrigerated hot sauce, not shelf-stable canning. Makes about 3 cups.
You can use any Habaneros for this recipe! Try it with all of the different habanero varieties.
