Sugar Baby is a sweet, small watermelon that is easy to grow and exceptionally refreshing to eat. It has fine-textured red flesh and matures in only 75 days. Sugar Baby produces anywhere from two to five melons per vine. This small melon doesn’t need a lot of space or time to ripen flavor-packed fruits.

Watermelon seeds can be planted directly into the garden soil.

Sow seed directly into the garden 4 weeks after the last frost and when soil is warm.

Create mounds of soil 4' apart on center and plant 3 seeds on top of each at a 1" depth. Later thin to one plant per mound. Seeds will germinate in 7-10 days depending on the soil temperature. Vines can reach 8-10' long and can be trellised to save space. Be sure to support the hanging melons with a stretchy sling or net as they grow.

The fruit is ripe and ready to pick about 5 weeks after the vine flowers. The clues to watch for are a brown tendril closest to the melon with a yellow ground spot.

Each packet contains 45 Sugar Baby Watermelon seeds. Citrullus lanatus. Annual. Open-pollinated, heirloom, Non-GMO. Harvest in 75 days. $3.00

This packet plants 15 mounds for 15 plants.

Watermelon is delicious.

Sugar Baby has a very sweet flavor and a Brix value, which measures total sugar concentration in the flesh, falls around 10.2 (10 percent). Brix varies greatly depending on growing conditions. If you withhold water for at least a week before harvesting a watermelon, that concentrates the sugars and enhances sweetness.

Features.

In regions with a long growing season, the first melon is usually the largest, with smaller melons ripening toward the end of the season. Watermelons are predominantly eaten fresh, they can also be frozen, made into juice, or added to smoothies.

Benefits.

Watermelon is packed with water and nutrients and contains very few calories.  It is a good source of vitamin A and vitamin C.
