My peppers love growing next to green beans

My peppers love growing next to green beans, they seem to keep them greener and happier and also keep the peppers from getting sunburnt in our hot, dry western climate. Easy to grow, I just pop them into the soil around my transplanted pepper plants and keep sowing them through August to keep the beans coming in. They are great when steamed for a few minutes, then rinsed in cold water, and sauteed in olive oil with some hot pepper flakes and salt to season. Perfecto!

Perfect companion plant for my pepper pots! I

Perfect companion plant for my pepper pots! I tuck a couple of these beans into my pepper pots after transplanting them outside for the summer. The beans provide some side-shade for the peppers and they seem to always be very happy together. I think the extra nitrogen from the bean's roots help the peppers grow happier, and they also benefit from the shade of the bean plants so that my peppers don't get sunburned. I read about growing bush beans with peppers in a companion planting book from the library a few years back and I'm 100% convinced that they are the perfect pepper companions.

Perfect for building the soil

I grow beans because they help build the soil, and I like to grow them in rotation between peppers and tomatoes. These grew very nicely and were very productive - couldn't keep up with them they just kept coming!
