Big Jim Legacy Pepper Seeds - Flavor & Heat - A True New Mexico Chile

Growing these in Florida, (Recent transplant of NM).
Lovely peppers. Took a couple weeks is all and wow! I have several budding; 2 large enough to nickname. They're still in their infancy, but I can tell they are going to be great! Love the seeds!

I grow chilis for seed from Sandia in Wichita Kansas. They take longer for harvesting but make great roasting Chilis. I call them WichiHatch Chilis.

Grow really fast

I planted both Big Jim Legacy and Big Jim Medium. Both were really mild, with heat if I ate the membrane and the seeds. Compared to the Big Jim peppers we purchased from Wegmans, these were significantly more mild. We sprouted them inside under a grow light and on a heat pad; they did very well. We moved them to our deck for the rest of the season. They grew very slowly (it was a cold, wet spring) and produced few buds until August/September, when they really took off! Right now we are anticipating a nice crop until the first frost. We are at 2650 feet elevation midway along Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. No dishes made yet as we are waiting until we harvest enough peppers for canned peppers. Anyway, next year I will work with different soil configurations and more carefully document the results in order to determine the optimum growing setup.

These taste good, but are smaller than the ones I ordered from NuMex (CPI), and very susceptible to mites and fungal issues. They also don't like the heat, ironically.

My husband is a born and raised Albuquerquian who moved to Vancouver , BC. Since New Mexican products are hard to find north of the border, I'm so glad I'm able to grow Big Jim's for him and our neighborhood smells divine come roasting season.

Big Chiles with just enough heat to add to green enchilada's. The flavor after roasting is fantastic. Since green chile roasting is not a local thing in Eastern Washington we us a weed burner. The smell of roasting peppers is heavenly.

I've been growing green chiles for sometime, but have found Big Jim Legacy to be one of my favorites. In my garden, the plants are vigorous produce until frost. Germination is always great and I've had no problems with any of the seeds I have purchased from Sandia Seed.
