Stocky Red Roaster is an open-pollinated (OP) pepper that is a great alternative to hybrid Italian fryer peppers. It has the same great characteristics, and because it is OP, you can save seeds for next season. Save seeds from robust fruit and vigorous plants.

This delicious sweet pepper measures 4–6” in length and 2” wide at the shoulders. A very productive tall 3’ plant with a leafy canopy to protect peppers from sun-scald. Fruit ripens from green to a smooth glossy vibrant red when fully mature. We call this beautiful pepper our Stocky Red Rooster.

Capsicum annuum (102 days) Heirloom - Open Pollinated

Heat Level: Sweet    Scoville: None

~ Packet contains 10 seeds.

In early spring, start seeds indoors 8 weeks prior to warm nightly temperatures. Place the seeds in sterile media and cover 1/4” deep. Provide 85°F bottom heat, bright light and keep moist at all times. Seeds will germinate in 7 - 14 days. Transplant seedlings into pots and grow until there are 6 true leaves on the plant. Plant them directly into rich soil, 36” apart and harvest when red.

All of our seeds are GMO-free.

Big peppers

Very productive plants, nice big pods - great for roasting, peeling and marinating for putting on sandwiches or crackers.

A Pepper to Crow About

This sweet red pepper lives up to its promise. The sturdy, stocky plants with abundant leaf cover protect peppers from leaf scald, and each pepper is a perfectly meaty, juicy, crunchy and wonderfully sweet treat. Great for roasting on the grill! The roasted peppers freeze well for using throughout the year and adding to pizzas and pasta or just slicing to have with cheese, crackers and pesto. Makes a marvelous coulis, when blended with a little olive oil and a squeeze of lemon!

In over twenty years of gardening and trying many varieties of large and small sweet peppers, I have finally found a keeper. No more searching! Stocky Red Rooster is the best, most consistently productive, reliable sweet pepper you can hope to grow!
